Since nothing new can be invented, then it’s better to shuffle all what already exists. That can be the consideration that led Devious in writing their songs, since the Dutch band, after remaining closed within a particular perimeter, decided to fully explore the field at hand. Out of metaphors the European band plays a 360 degrees death metal: the furious assault of Suffocation is merged with the harmonic breaks of At The Gates, the fast variations of Cannibal Corpse are matched with the anguishing wickedness of Dissection, while drops of the frenzied assault of Cryptopsy are fused with the violence vortex of Behemoth. And they may not miss the reference to the thrash of Bay Area, at times in little pills, at times evidently homaged as in the Slayer-like incipit of “Shibito”. The list of comparisons may go on, but it would say little without their ability to stand the comparison with the big names with valour.
