Veni Domine, band of christian doom metal, have been back after a period of silence caused by personal and contractual problems. “Tongues”, their new effort, shows the good shape of the band of Weinesjo brothers through 10 valuable well done compositions, where they just partially adopt the hyper slow doom rhythms that dominate in the final title track. The Swedish band prefers contaminating their sound with huge classic heavy edges, in part British in part Scandinavian, without refusing a touch of prog metal that enriches their offer. If the guitar knows how to be interesting and various, Fredrik Sjoholm’s voice is often the arm more, given as it is of a timbre and an interpretative vibe that can only recall big names like Geoff Tate of Queensryche or Ray Alder of Fates Warning. Nice album that can grow with the listens, “Tongues” alternates excellent moments of rocking heavy with resounding hooks, just suffering a flat production that makes no justice to this worthy band.
